Welcome to the Maples
With no visible neighbors, The Maples cottage offers a lovely, private, setting and is surrounded by many maple trees with a northwest exposure for beautiful sunset viewing through the trees. Palmerston Lake, being a spring-fed, clean, clear lake has Lake Trout and Bass fishing.
The Maples cottage has electric heat and a woodstove with a glass door for comforting flame viewing making your Winter stay cozy and comfortable. The Maples cottage is like a home away from home, with good year round access. We, your hosts permanently reside in the same area and therefore are always willingly available to offer assistance to our guests.
With carpet and vinyl flooring throughout for easy upkeep, this naturally bright cottage has a somewhat rustic appeal to it as we have retained some of it’s original log and chinking in our updating and renovating, yet keeping it modern and clean at the same time with the hopes it will suit the growing popularity of cottage vacationers. It is well maintained and stocked with all the comforts of home. A family of six will be very comfortable as the living area is very spacious with quality furnishings.
The two bedrooms which sleep 4 comfortably are set to the back of the cottage, away from any family noise in the evenings. A new double sofa bed sectional couch in the living room is suitable for older siblings or guests. A four piece bathroom and laundry area provides families with young children the opportunity to stay for an extended period of time. The large eat-in kitchen/dining room area is fully equipped with fridge, stove with oven and microwave and all small appliances as are cleansers and a vacuum cleaner for quick clean ups. The living room has abundant seating and is centered around the woodstove which throws off a delicious heat enticing one to cuddle up for a relaxing and warm weekend away during the Winter months. A color T.V. & DVD/VCR player and telephone are included. Our cottages are all smoke free and pet free.
Cottage Rental Facilities
With "drive to the door" access, The Maples cottage boasts a large, furnished, carpeted screened porch off the dining room offering extra bug free living and play space. Relax in the evening with a good book and listen to the call of the loons. Horseshoe pits (horseshoes included) which double as sandboxes (sand toys included) and a large grassed yard provide family fun and the picnic table and complimentary propane BBQ make for enjoyable outdoor meals. The lake is accessed by approximately a 2 minute walk down a gentle trail and a staircase. You will enjoy sitting on your own private dock with a storage shed for your personal waterfront needs. There is plenty of docking space for your own boat; the public boat launch is just a short distance away. Four patio chairs and small table remain at the dock for your convenience. The fairly shallow swimming area to one side of the dock has a gradual slope and no weeds, the lake bottom being a mix of sand and smaller rocks. Children will enjoy rock bass fishing off the end of the dock. Complimentary canoe and pedal boat with life jackets and boating safety kit is included.

Notes
The Maples cottage is located just a few minutes from the OFSA and EOTA snowmobile and ATV trails where unlimited public access to miles of crown land and dozens of lakes is abundant. Partake in many of the other outdoor activities available in this area such as X-country skiing, ice fishing for trout during the winter months and swimming, boating and fishing for numerous species during the Summer months. A short hike up to our “Lookout” offers a breathtaking panoramic view of both Palmerston Lake and Canonto Lake. This is just a taste of what outdoor country life in The Land O' Lakes is all about.
The Maples cottage is plumbed with delicious potable water from a seasonally tested well. Blankets and pillows are provided year round, however you must bring your own linen and towels, also paper products. We provide you with a few, often forgotten or overlooked items when packing, such as coffee filters, dish soap, T-towels and dish cloths, salt and pepper, clothespins, candles, matches and garbage bags. We encourage recycling at all times. Unfortunately, there is no cell phone service in this area, except at the top of the “Lookout”. Public Internet access is available at the Library and at The Double”S” Sports and Marina Store in Ompah. There are other privately owned cottages in the area but no resorts making boat traffic on the lake and traffic noise minimal. We appreciate family guests and couples and nature lovers who just want a quiet getaway.
